What food can be given to a 7-months old baby?

Weaning is well underway, and your baby can now handle mashed foods with some small soft lumps; they can also practice their biting and chewing abilities by feeding themselves soft fruit, boiled veggies, toast, slices of meat, etc. Increase the amount and variety of food you provide your infant gradually over the next few weeks, to attain three meals per day. Quantity is not important.

Introducing variety is the key to successful weaning. They can also drink water from a free-flow cup rather than a bottle.

In addition to solid food, the average 7-month-old baby still needs milk, however with decreased frequency than the previous months. They will continue to feed at night time too.

Focus on baby-led weaning where we support the baby to eat by themselves and let them decide how much to eat. This baby can be made to sit in a high chair or assisted chair with a plate in front of them. The feed must be responsive too i.e. understand the baby’s cues, likes, and dislikes while feeding. Feeding is the time when the child is most interactive.

Take the opportunity to talk to the baby while feeding. Avoid screen time during feeding, as it takes away the focus from eating.
