– When your child shows signs of hunger, such as placing their hands in their mouth, feed them.
– Start by giving 2-3 spoonfuls of soft food twice a day.
– Start with one food (dal water or rice kanji), then add a second food after 4-5 days to get the infant acquainted with the flavor.
– Because their stomachs are so little at this age, infants can only eat small amounts at each meal. The flavor of a new food may surprise your baby.
– Give them time to get used to the new meals and flavors. Be patient with your child and don’t force them to eat.
– Be consistent, offer a food item at least 8-10 times over a week before assuming that the baby doesn’t like it. Try giving food at scheduled times of the day.
– Offer solids before breastfeeding, because when the baby is hungry, they are more likely to accept the meal.
– Continue to breastfeed or formula feed until the infant is eating a sufficient amount of solid food.
