However, no research states that purees are not good enough. Food is food. There is no such thing as bad food as long as the said food is fresh, carefully and hygienically prepared, and nutritious.
The whole purpose of opting for Baby-led weaning is to make the child self-dependent right from the very beginning and to allow the baby to explore food and associate with food on their own.
This way the baby chooses what to eat, how much to eat and when to stop eating. However, the iron needs of a baby over 6 months are more than an adult male and there is no way to measure their iron intake in Baby-led weaning.
Moreover, breastmilk or formula alone isn’t enough for your baby to fulfill their nutrient needs. With Baby-led weaning, the baby may or may not eat enough to fulfill their needs, especially when your baby is just starting with solids.
Hence, purees are a good option at such times.
Some parents might also feel very nervous while going for solids directly, starting with purees is a great alternative.
You can introduce solids slowly, like once a day or so, and continue with purees until your baby develops a great relationship with solids.
