By 9 months, your baby has mastered the pincer grasp which is the ability to hold anything with the thumb and first finger. This means that your baby can now grasp and hold solid foods with their finger and thumb. This is the time when you move to the second stage of BLW.
Offer your baby food that is cut into bite-sized pieces. Change the texture of the food that you offer. Go from soft and dissolvable to lumpy and chewable. The food should take your baby some effort to chew but still be soft enough to digest easily.
Remember that breastmilk/formula should still be your baby’s major source of nutrition for up to 1 year.
Here are some sample BLW foods for 9 – 11 month olds – Steamed beans, peas, apple wedges, pear slices, chopped spinach, Baked fish (check for bones thoroughly), Cooked and then pureed chicken, Whole wheat pasta, Cheddar cheese, Boiled and cooked whole grains.
