Traditional weaning or any form of weaning should be started around the age of 6 months.
Anytime before 6 months is not appropriate to introduce solid foods or purees to your baby because your baby’s gut is not ready to accept solids and other foods.
Also, the baby doesn’t have developmental skills like sitting, taking food to the mouth, etc. before the age of 6 months.
Starting with traditional weaning is not a herculean task. Simply start by making fruit purees and vegetable purees.
Gradually shift towards purees made from grains and then meat, fish, and poultry.
The purees at 6-7 months should be thin and smooth in consistency. Gradually move towards more textured purees and eventually mashed food.
