Babies don’t need too much salt or sugar before 1 year. The amount of salt and sugar present in breast milk or formula is sufficient to fulfill their requirements before the age of 1.
Too much salt before this age may affect your baby’s kidneys. Whereas, higher amounts of sugar lead to tooth decay and other issues. Introduce salt and sugar into your baby’s diet after the age of – Start by introducing slowly and increase the amount gradually.
For instance, start adding salt and sugar to one meal/snack a day and then increase it to two meals after some days, and so on. Remember, at this stage, less is more. You can also use jaggery in place of sugar to cook baby foods such as kheer, halwa, etc. as jaggery is better than sugar and way more nutritious.
