Interestingly, when your infant is sick, your breast milk’s composition changes. Your body produces antibodies to fight infections caused by bacteria or viruses when you are exposed to them; these antibodies are then passed on to your baby through breast milk. When your infant is ill, the numbers of leukocytes—immune system-supporting cells—in your milk also increase quickly.
Also, breast milk is the best nourishment for newborns with upset stomachs since it is so easy to digest.
Remember that you might need to adjust how you nurse your baby if they are ill. For example, a baby with a cold might choose to feed more often but for shorter amounts of time because it’s more comfortable and it’s hard for them to stay still for long periods of time.
