How to stop co-sleeping with children?

After co-sleeping with parents for a long time, it may be an uphill task for the child to sleep alone. But if parents can make a plan and stick to it, it is possible. There are a few strategies that parents can follow:

· They can set the stage by reassuring the toddler that the new bedroom is in fact a welcome change, and it will be okay and the parents are not going anywhere.

· The timing of the change is critical and should not overlap with any other major life events like starting daycare or teething, or any major milestone.

· First, you can shift them to the crib and then to their own room for a gradual change. For sleep, you can start with naps.

· A soothing pre-bedtime routine can be calming, like a bath or a book.

· Parents can customize the bed according to the child with their favorite sheets and blankets, keeping in mind suffocation and choking hazards. You can keep soft toys that they like to quickly help the toddler go to bed.

· Give your toddler a little challenging task to get tired by night and go to bed on time. But make sure it’s not over-tiring due to which they can get overtired and cranky.
